About Afghan Women's Centre of Montreal
The Afghan Women Centre's mission is to empower socially isolated immigrant women within Montreal through creating programs according to their needs, facilitating self-development workshops and promoting team-based projects.
The Afghan Women's Centre (AWC) is a community of immigrant women who strive to make positive changes in their lives through coming together around their shared challenges, dreams and goals. The AWC works with women on an individual and collective basis to help empower them to participate fully in their communities, discover their place in society, break isolation and find the best ways to meet their needs, both economically and socially.
The AWC recognizes the unique struggles that immigrant women face establishing themselves in a new country – from language learning, accessing employment and child care, to intense feelings of isolation, to not having their skills, knowledge, and contributions recognized.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for women falling into the minority group, and to improve their welfare through community engagement.
Understanding and responding to the vulnerabilities of seniors, we offer intergenerational activities such as: social exchange, transference of skills, and creating opportunities to develop leadership roles.
Improving our members' quality of life is at the core of our mission. That is why we take pride in giving support to our members, acting as a reference to public health services and Quebec's social systems. Our objective is to contribute to our members well-being.
